The Furniture Bargaining Council recently experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting parts of its computer environment. Certain servers were encrypted and the affected environment was isolated, recovered and rebuilt with specialist IT assistance.
An external third party has claimed to have accessed and extracted information held by the Council. However, at this stage, the Council could not independently verify those claims and its investigation into whether personal information was in actual fact accessed or acquired remains ongoing.
This notice is published as a precaution and in the interests of transparency. The Council is not presently in a position to confirm that the personal information of any particular person or establishment has been compromised.
The Council continues to investigate the matter and to strengthen its security measures. Data subjects are advised to remain alert to suspicious communications and to verify unexpected requests for personal, banking or login information through the Council’s normal contact channels.
